As expected Aiden is doing wonderfully in kindergarten - making lots of new friends and learning quite a bit. This last week was the first week of homework, so that's means work atnight for Aiden, mom and dad! ;) Angie and Kieran are doing very well - Angie has managed to juggle all of the new responsibilities with grace. Cam's work at RBC continues to be rigorous, but he is definitely making more family time, which what matters most!
Last weekend, Mitch and Rick visited so Kieran got to meet grandpa and uncle Ricky for the first time. We had a blast and spent a lot of time chillin and at a street festival.
This week Kara and Faysion plan to travel to Raleigh so the cousins will be reunited.

Last week was Aiden's first week of Kindergarten at Bugg Elementary and she loved it. It is definitely an adjustment from the free-wheeling fun of Summer and preschool years, but it is a great environment and most importantly she has a very engaged and caring teacher. It has also been an adjustment for the whole family, falling into a much stricter regiment of dinner, shower, bed, etc. by a certain time. So far, so good.
Kara and Mike had their baby girl Faysion two weeks ago and all is well. We visited in Wilmington when they came home from the hospital and hung with the newbies and ecstatic grandmas.
Angie is doing a fabulous job as always adjusting to a new kid in the house. While sleep is limited she is keeping everything running smoothly. Cam is getting more winks than most new dads, bunking with the dogs in the guest room for now, since the bank life tends to be a bit enervating. He's still running like a wild deer, and life is good.
Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day!

So the first week and a half have been a wonderful time at home with Kieran. With great support from grandmas and other family members/friends, our transition to a gang of four has been pretty smooth so far. Kieran is a very relaxed and easy going young lad. As second time parents we have a much more mellow approach and energy and he definitely reflects that back. After his first check up all is well and all systems are operational. He is a true joy to be around. Almost makes us talk about #3....almost.
Angie has been a super trooper and done very well - she is the ultimate mama after all. Aiden loves her role as big sis and is also readying for her own venture - kindergarden in one week!! It scares me more than anything - she is pumped and ready. Well, off to change a diaper...

Just a quick update on the new family member before my eyes fail to stay open.... Kieran Mitchell Kelly was born at 11:43pm Wednesday night - happy, healthy, proud and dashing. All the usual details out of the way first - mom and baby are fine, fingers/toes all present, yadda yadda.
So at 10 days overdue, Angie drank 4oz of Castor Oil at 10am, followed by hours of discomfort/nausea, but no sign of contractions. Thought it was just another baby-less night, but at 9pm Angie started to feel mild contractions. From the very first, they were consistent and within 40 mins we were in the car headed to the birth center in Chapel Hill (45 mins away). Of course they were doing construction and the highway was down to one lane. Things in the car got very intense and I had to off-road it onto the closed lanes until we came head to head with some behemoth pavement-laying machine.
We made it to the center with midwives/Grandma Jane waiting and Angie was in the birthing tub by 10:30. With dim lights, the Beatles in the background and contractions strengthening, Kieran made his appearance before midnight.
I was lucky enough to help deliver him from crowning to birth and Aiden cut the cord. With intense focus, Angie again did it with no complaining (well, very little) and no drugs. We were all snug in bed by 2 or 3am. (Aiden unfortunately took a spill off the bed onto the floor and split her nose at 4am, so some drama ensued, but she is fine today) We're home, we're overjoyed, we're overtired.
We love you - this is what makes it all worthwhile...

One week since the last post and.......no Kieran! He is not planning on getting here early (which I guess falls in line with the trends of the rest of his family - punctuality is not our forte). Angie went in for her appointment last Thursday and she was 3cm dilated so things are definitely in progress, but no baby yet.
Though we wait anxiously, life goes on. Nesting is basically complete - the house is in order and ready for newborn action. Aiden and her dad had a wonderful date night and went to see the Sound of Music at Memorial Hall downtown. Ending at 11:30pm dad and Aiden both were out past their bedtimes.
After a stellar swim season Aiden, mom and dad will attend the awards ceremony tonight where she will get her trohpy for the second year in a row. She'll be smoking Phelps' times by the third grade....
Maybe by next post our boy will be here....we'll keep ya updated!

We're anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new boy! Just one week until the official due date and all of us are very excited and ready (some of us more ready than others) for Kieran to be born. We've benn bouncing around different names but think Kieran has stuck...for now at least. At least it remains in the Irish family.
Other than that Aiden and Angie are out shopping for her first real bookbag for Kindergarden, which begins at the end of August! She'll be attending Bugg Elementary - a magnet school with a focus on arts, so she'll be spending lots of time learning dance, music, painting, sculpting and more along with her normal studies. Can't believe she's going to school!! I think her dad is more scared then Aiden (not that she is scared at all).
Until next time - have a wonderful week.
